its been a while since i tuched chalk... reasons for it were nt jus my schedule bt also emotional {click here} i hav battled thru des days.. wanting to make a decision... and i ve finally made a call.. tat m gona re start my wrk..... felt like tellin d wrld.. so wrote :)
i will be touchin those dusty chalk pieces again this night to present it to a very spl person.. very spl indeed.... !!
bye 4 nw.. tc

Happy Bday Appa!! :)
Today, my father's 50th bday!! have taken a day off frm d proj work ...
tot i shid do something spl to gift my appa, who has been my back bone for who i'm and certainly wat i wud be..
i was kind of saturated wit chak stuff for time being, more so wanted to revert back to paper art!
so tot of doing an origamy
but wait, wats d NEW part of it?
wats different frm d previous stuff?
orgamy workswhich i'm used to is with accurate measurements, geometry n trignometry stuff, and more over needs a lot of glue to stick .
hw abt doing a model, as good as the others but , with no scale or glue!
tat wud be a good challege , i felt .. and a nice way to gift me appa. :)
so , now i'd to choose a poly hedron to start , i choose Do Deca Hedron , i somehow 'm attached to this model ya! its simple yet dignified and complex in its own way!

i cut a lot of eqilateral triangles in a reasonably thin sheet(compared to card board)
and made a basic unit for construction(with a pair of triangle : 1 folded over other) which wud look like a projections of the 3 medians of the triangles with a socket for putting another such piece .
so now , its just matter of getting the triangles done and then making them into the basic piece and assembling them into the model one after other keeping in mind the geometry of model....
finally this is how it looks :)
its more simple than it seems ...... unlike few other models :D
Basically , Eqilateral Triangles are the basic building blocks of the model.
But takes a lot of patient effort to do this, and ofcourse..... LOVE

PS : i used no glue, no pencil, no instruments except scissors for it...
this is not the first time 'm trying it, but yea, its fun to do such things... :)

Hypercube!
Yep.. a fancy name indeed :)
this seems to be a fairly simple model.. but it is lil more complicated than that!
if u have seen a CUBE... guess all have seen it or know hw it would look like.
this is a step ahead of the cube.. its like a CUBE inside a CUBE..!!
cool huh?

this is the pic of it...
v'd a subject called Graph Theory, tot to us by one of my fav teachers' Satya Maam :)
a day or two before i got the idea of making this model, she had tot us abt this ...
I would have wished to dedicate this to her but in fact i'd gifted it to another very good frnd of mine.. so dedication is not reusable there :D
well let me tell some thing abt theintricate details of the model..
as u can see in d pic, there is a big cube... and ther is a smaller cube inside ..
the side length of inside cube in a hypercube is exactly half of the side length of the outside one!
anyways,continuing...
the sides are connected as shown in d model...
i'd used a very thick sheet/card board to do the outside cube.. that's where i could've done better cos even though i tried my best to close the vertices.. it was not 100% possible
but overall it came out fairly well...
its a lil tricky , i said in the begining cos there u gt 2 figure out the exact angle and exact length of the sides which connect the inner cube's vertices to outer cube's vertices...
its reasonably simple, and v can do it wit help of simple trignomentry! {try it} :)
if u get this done , then its only matter of implimentation... {to be very frank.. this is tuf too .. :-D}
but its worth a try..
as always, i promise u tat i'll always be there to help u out ...
cheers :)

DO-DECA Hedron
yea.. i know..
the name seems to be funny :P
bt there is a nomenclature behind it !
let me explain..
DO -- two
DECA -- ten
so do-deca mean 10+2 = 12 sided figure
HEDRON means a 3 - D model made up of many polygons... k
polygons means a 2-D plane figure like a pentagon..

well this is the thing...
made of 12 pentagons..
bound at a cretain solid angle
this model came abt jus as perfect as i hoped.. i was happy wit the result...
its called DO DECA HEDRON..
if u wanna try out..
'm here to help u out :)

Carbon 60 Fullerene-- Football
Hey!! this model i made 2-3 years back ... had made similar models before...
this is technically called as a Fullerene!
u guys know wat a Fullerene is right?? well, if u dont .. no big deal..
click on this link.. u'll know watever there is to know about a Fullerene
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fullerene
In Laymen terms... it is a spatial arrangement of CArbon Atoms...
there are two Fullerenes 'm aware of..
1> CArbon 60 -- Football
2> CArbon 70 -- Rugby Ball
yes! carbon 60 is nothing but a FOOTBALL!

so now, i guess u'll be able to see that carbon 60 thing is same as our futball... :)
k now.. i'll show u d model i made..
i colour coded it .. pentagons(5 sided figures) in yellow
and hexagons(6 sided figures) in some orange kind of colour...
1 thing which u wont be able to see is that on d top i've made a hole.. to acomadate a small bulb...

if u would switch it on, only the pentagons are highlighted!
i mean i'd used a thinner card board for pentagon and thick one for hexagon.. got it?
anyways for info,
football = 20 haxagons + 12 pentagons
all the sides of a pentagon are inturn attached to 5 other hexagons
and for a hexagons, alternative sides are attached to a hexagon and a pentagon...
if u wanna try it out nd need some help..
'm always a click away...
wish to here frm u ppl..

Origamy
this is again something which 'm very passionate abt...
for those who are wondering wat 'm talking abt...
i'll tell u wat this origamy is...
this is supposed to be ART ... from card board/paper
its origin is frm japan i guess... may be china.. i donno
anyways.. i like it!
it was dec 24th christmas eve, tat eve in planitarium there was a demo class of Origamy aking place...
frm our coll, many 10th std students took part...
i was in 9th ... by some way, i convinced my vice principal tat i also wud acompany them .... well, i did..
frm tat day, started a remarkable journey in to the world or car board..
i've thoroughly enjoyed the experiance...
learned many a lessons frm it....
made PROPER GEOMETRIC MODELS on demand for my school, PU College, and even Engineering College!
i've not taken pics of many of my models...
and also they are not with me...
many are with the respective institutions.. few with my friends(whom i gifted to... )
hope they take deserved care.... and rest of them either worn out or stepped upon or... many ways to loose it.. hehe
PS: Origamy is a BIG branch concerned with card board art...
'm only into a part where u develop POLYHEDRONS from card board..
this requires knowledge of geometry... angles, no.. of sides, metrics.. etc
i'll upload few pics and explain as to how it is done...

Chalk Bird :)
well well...
this is my bird...
this is kind of thing to gift, i felt will express that he/she is spl
so.......... i did it !
For those who r wanting to know HOW it was done....
first of all, the main step is to gamble !!!
yes , gamble... with the Chalk Piece!
cos u dont want it to break up when u are doing d details... it hurts when it happens..
so choosing a chalk is one of the most imp steps in coming up wit d actual model!
after this is a much more sophisticated step...
VISUALIZATION.. this is the HARDEST part!
u got to SEE the MODEL when its not yet there.. this will demand a lot of concentration and SKILL.
this is tuffest part..
and after tat its pretty simple...
CArving stuff... 2-3 hours of non stop concentration, while enjoying the dust... being careful enough not get distracted, not to make a single mistake.. not to deviate from the original plan...
to make perfect curvature.... tats abt it...
u've ur piece ready.. filled with LOOOOOOOOOOOOOt of love n care...
and now u mite think all d work is done...
well, its not!
still d most important and d one which requires the MAX care is still left out...
and it is....
no prizes for guessing .....
PACkING!
i normally stuff it with whole lot of Soft cotton...with considerable amount of fear actually...
why, i'll tell u..
after all d good work if u loose ur piece jus because it BROKE makes u go GUGUGAGA! ask my friend setu,i'd lost my temper once whn i screwed up a piece, while talking a snap shot.. after tat i've been ever so care ful
i don even allow anyone to tuch my finished models... not even ... well no one!
i carefully put it into some box, with lot of cotton gift pack.. and keep it ready...
and for this reason , i do it only on d day before somebody's bday!
well ,i've not told u till now i guess...
i do it only for frnds...
idon have any of these models wit me..
i've gifted them all.....
:)
PS :
i don use any spl kind of chalk ...
i use normal DUSTING chalk, which costs Rs 1 for 3 pieces :P
i use normal DUSTING chalk, which costs Rs 1 for 3 pieces :P
Helix!
Chess
C C -- Chalk Chains !!
yes yes yes.... we can do chains wit chalk....
let me admit, chalk art is tuf work! it takes ur time,ur eye "power" is increased (to a negetive level) , u get ur eyes strained.. if u 've breathing problems u better stay away cos the chalk dust is first thing u want to avoid!!. above all it aint donkeys work, u got to have SKILL! if u've lack of it, trust me, u need to GET some SKILL....don ask me how... hehe :D
but if u do it for self satisfaction, or to bring a smile on somebody's face who sees it... or to gift it to someone spl ... its worth it!!
i started off doing small 2 chains of calks, at first i rarely succeded
and it was a huge moral booster for me every time i improved upon my mistakes...
my principle is -- to never repeat a particular mistake, its ok to do some other mistake but not d same mistake over n over again, it would confirm tat i'd not learnt anything from it...
so i went along correcting myself... day in and day out,,,
i remember i used to do it in my college also, i was so curious to make a chain out of chalk i would strive any harder if it demanded!
then 1 fine day i succeded .. i'd got a hang of it...
these were my first chalks :)

hmmmm.. now my basics were kind of good...
only way to test it was to take a tuffer task...
i often do this... when i get to know something i throw a challenge to myself, "lets see if u can do it... "
i like it!
but this time, it was not jus a challenge, it was a let out for my feelings....
i wanted to gift my art.... so i better do it good ......
this was wat i did....

i'd like to add tat i did this on my busiest day of my life... :)

Chalk and................
a billion thanks to my friend Poshith(cant express in words hw i feel)to have introduced to me to the "WORLD OF CHALK ART" ....
and from then onwards, i've done quite a few art pieces(well, i like to call them so :D )
i'll in course of few blog postings share wit u some of the chalk pieces i've made...
for now, this is how all d chalk arts begin!
with jus a piece of chalk :)
